It doesn't matter if a piece of writing is 3,000 words, 300 or just three -- no job is too small for the watchful eyes of a proofreader.

Just ask the New York City Department of Transportation.

Last week the DOT was charged with an 'E' by New York City's official scorers -- in this case Queens residents and politicians -- after a new sign misspelled the roadway named for baseball icon Jackie Robinson.

The sign read "Jakie Robinson Parkway."

For that one spelling strikeout, the city will pay the costs to replace the sign (and any others) and earn even more ire from New Yorkers already quick to complain about traffic and road conditions. One NYC councilman told the New York Post the error is a "slap in the face."

So, as always, hire a proofreader. It's like hitting a home run for your writing, just without any of the excitement.
